Proven Winner's Bloom-A-Thon azaleas
Spring is here and lets think about adding some new plants to our landscape. A new plant for 20l2 that is creating lots of excitement is the Bloom-A-Thon Series of re-blooming azaleas just introduced by Proven Winners ColorChoice. These shrubs are born and bred for multiple seasons of interest of flowers, foliage, bark, seed heads and other attributes.
Bloom-A-Thons may be twice as nice as other azaleas! Why settle for just a week or two of flowers when you can enjoy up to five months of bloom? Large flowers appear in April, then rebloom in early July, continuing through fall until a hard frost. Even high summer temperatures donít stop this beauty from producing loads of late summer and fall flowers. Flowering lasts for 4-6 weeks in the spring and then another 12-16 weeks in the summer and fall. The glossy evergreen foliage is disease resistant and maintains excellent color year-round.
The Bloom-A-Thon re-blooming azaleas are available in four colors: red,
white (dwarf evergreen shrub), lavender and double pink. They grow best under
conditions of light shade, adequate moisture, and fertile well-drained amended
soil. Partial sun to dappled shade is ideal and eliminates flower scorch in
full summer sun. Though the plants produce an abundance of large flowers, they
are self-cleaning which reduces disease and increases their beauty in the
landscape. Bloom-A-Thons are beautiful in borders or
clusters, and the smaller growing varieties are for perfect for container gardens.
