*Saturday March 12 - Spring Lawn Care

    A little tending now can save a lot of work later, and result in a gorgeous velvety green lawn! At this seminar, we will touch on everything from weed prevention steps, to moss control, to fertilization - everything necessary to wake up your lawn from its winter nap and get it started on a beautiful spring.

*Saturday March 19 - Introduction to Stepables

     Stepables are a wonderful line of groundcovers and perennials designed especially for those high traffic areas, such as around stepping stones and curbs, patios and decking, even garbage can areas! Larry Newlin from Riverbend Nursery in Riner, Virginia will be our guest speaker and will show you how to choose and use Stepables to add color, to cover unattractive spots in your landscaping, to help prevent erosion and more. *Saturday March 26 - Berries, Anyone?

     Our annual spring Berry Festival will be going on this weekend, so this is a perfect time to show you what your berry-growing options are and how to get started. You name it - grapes, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, gooseberries and lots more - can be grown successfully in our area. It is crucial, however, to know the correct steps to take to begin, and that is just what you will learn at this free seminar. Every attendee will receive a free 40 pound bag of Daddy Pete's Soil Conditioner to plant your berries with!!

*Saturday April 2 - Veggies for Starters!

     Growing vegetables is easy once you get the hang of it, and "the hang of it" is exactly what you will get at this free seminar. Guest Speaker Melody Rose from University of Tennessee/Washington County Extension Agent will guide you through choosing the right vegetables for your particular growing conditions and starting a crop that will pay off in a delicious way!

*Saturday, April 9 - Landscape Designs by YOU!

     The professional on-staff landscape designers at Evergreen of Johnson City are ready to share their design secrets with you, so that you do-it-yourselfers can create a showpiece landscape in your own yard. While the end result will LOOK as though it was done by a professional, you will have the satisfaction of knowing your fabulous landscaping is a result of YOUR handiwork!

 

 

     It's time for another season of free advice, free instruction, free answers to your questions, and free fun as well.

     Our Saturday Seminars are the place to learn new tricks for your gardening and landscaping, pick up new ideas, and get tips from the pros to make all your horticultural efforts a success.

 

  The seminars begin at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday,

and include refreshments, door prizes, and special discounts for seminar attendees. Registration is

                                               always a good idea, but is not required unless specified.

Now here's a look at what's coming up for Spring 2005:

*Saturday April 16 - Perennial Paradise

     Whether it is a simple perennial garden, or a landscape full of them, the loveliness of perennials is matched only by their value - after all, when tended properly, one initial investment of time and money can result in a lifetime of beauty. At this free seminar, EVERYTHING about perennials will be discussed - choosing them, mixing them, growing them, tending them - you name it! Our own on-staff perennial experts - Sheila, Dan and Ginger - will be joined by special guest Larry Newlin from Riverbend Nursery to show you how to become a perennial expert yourself.

*Saturday April 23 - ROSES FOR EVERYONE!

NOTE: THIS SEMINAR TAKES PLACE AT 1:30 P.M. Register early, as this seminar tends to fill up quickly.

     You CAN grow roses, and the great news is that it is not as difficult as you might think. There are only two things you MUST have - the desire, and expert instruction. You provide the desire, and we will take care of the rest at this free seminar. Our returning guest speaker will be Dave Shanklin from the Jackson and Perkins Rose Company, and 40 full size rose bushes will be awarded to lucky attendees! Come on - you can do it! With Evergreen of Johnson City on your side, you will growing beautiful lush roses in no time!

*Saturday April 30 - Do-It-All Herbs!

     What can make you feel better, make your cooking taste better, and make your home look better? One easy answer - herbs! Whether you grow them to add flavor to your meals, or for medicinal purposes, or for craft purposes, herbs are as easy as they are inexpensive as they are versatile! Grown indoors or out, we will take you on a guided tour of all the benefits of herbs, as well as how to care for them. This is a great place to either get started, or to add even more versatility to your current herb garden. Register early, as we expect a full house for this one!

No seminar is scheduled for this Saturday, but we invite you to come take advantage of the super Mothers' Day gift ideas we have to offer.

 

*Saturday May 14 - The Wonder of Water Gardening

     This free seminar is crafted to offer great tips on care and maintenance for those of you who already have a water garden, AND to address the questions of those who are thinking about getting started on a water garden. We will go from installation to upkeep, with a special emphasis on avoiding "green" water, and keeping your garden's water sparkling clear.

 

*Saturday May 21 - Weeds Be Gone!

     There's nothing like a rash of weeds to ruin the effect of an otherwise lovely yard or garden! While we will touch on how to address the weeds already present in these areas, the main emphasis here will be on weed prevention so that you can stop the spray-and-pull cycle in the future!
